Tesco Life Insurance

Tesco Life Insurance is a term life insurance product offered through Tesco Insurance & Money Services in partnership with Aviva Life & Pensions UK Limited, one of the UK’s most established insurers. The policy is designed to provide financial support to your loved ones if you die or are diagnosed with a terminal illness during the policy term.

Unlike some legacy Tesco Bank products, this life cover is focused purely on security for your family and includes exclusive Tesco Clubcard benefits, health and wellbeing services via the Aviva DigiCare+ app, and incentives such as a Tesco gift card.

What types of Life Insurance do Tesco provide

Tesco Life Insurance offers two main types of term cover:

Family Protection (Level Cover)

  • Pays a fixed cash sum if you pass away or are terminally ill during the term.
  • Sum assured stays at the same level throughout the policy.
  • Suitable for general family financial security.

Mortgage Protection (Decreasing Cover)

  • Designed to mirror the balance on your repayment mortgage.
  • The cover amount decreases over time as the mortgage reduces.
  • Helps ensure your home can be paid off in the event of your death.

Policy Benefits

Tesco Clubcard Perks

Tesco Life Insurance comes with a range of rewards tied to your Clubcard, including:

  • Discounted premiums for Clubcard holders
  • A £100 Tesco Gift Card after you’ve paid six months of premiums (T&Cs apply)
  • ‘Little Life Helps’ coupons to spend in‑store for a year (via the Tesco app)
  • These benefits add value to the policy, especially for regular Tesco shoppers

Aviva DigiCare+ Health & Wellbeing

As part of your policy, you also get access to the Aviva DigiCare+ app at no extra cost, which includes:

  • Annual health checks with follow‑up GP appointments
  • Second medical opinion services
  • Eating well and mental health support
  • Bereavement support services

These services are designed to help support your wellbeing alongside your protection cover.

What's Covered

Tesco Life Insurance primarily pays out a lump sum if:

  • You die during the policy term
  • You are diagnosed with a terminal illness and are not expected to live longer than 12 months

This payout can be used to support living costs, pay off debts, cover funeral expenses, or help children with education costs

The policy may also include:

  • A separation benefit for joint policies
  • Temporary cover during the house purchase process (free life cover for up to 90 days when moving home)

What's Not Covered

Before applying, it’s important to understand some limitations

  • No savings or investment component – this is pure protection with no cash-in value
  • Suicide or intentional self-inflicted injury in the first year is typically excluded
  • Non-payment of premiums will end cover immediately
  • Terms and eligibility for benefits like Little Life Helps and the gift card have specific conditions and may require opting into marketing via the Tesco App
